Portal on Candleriggs

We developed and produced our second in-house project which exhibited at Surge Festival in Glasgow.

Portal on Candleriggs invited passersby to leave the streets of Glasgow behind and step into imagined worlds of their own making!

Using model making, simple props, green screen, live performance and real-time generative AI, we transported portal guest to other worlds in a fun mash-up of improvisational theatre and cutting-edge technology.

The portal was created in collaboration with students from City of Glasgow College NQ Model Making for TV and HND Model Making for the Creative Industries courses.

Miniature Spectacular

Techbox's first in house project exhibited at Manipulate Festival in Edinburgh.

This experimental installation merged miniature model-making and hand crafted art with projection-mapping, MIDI controllers and realtime generative AI.

We created a scale model city to represent Edinburgh with a giant inflatable hovering above it.  Participants were invited to interpret what this mysterious object was - maybe a a foreboding omen or a symbol of hope - then the were asked to respond by designing it look by using collage, which was then transformed with AI software then projected onto the inflatable.

Fun Town - Rural Residency

Fun Town is an anarchic video game and an immersive street theatre mash-up.

In January 2024 we undertook some early stage development to explore the concept of merging street arts with video games.

This development involved experienced street artists, theatre-makers, directors, writers, 3D artists, games designers and educators. The results were then presented as an immersive sharing, where participants were given the chance to glimpse the game world then experience the festival.

Beautiful Bones - Digital Content

To compliment Surge's anarchic musical pandemonium celebrating death TechBox created playful digital content to support the event.

These included the Trom-Bone-o-Phone, a mobile web-based musical app, behind the scene videos of the four horsemen of the apocalypse's trusty steeds and 3D models of the marvellous production design that could be viewed in augmented reality  accessed by scanning QR codes that were situated around the performance.

Mixed Reality Theatre Workshop

To reboot TechBox we host a two day weekend workshop exploring how technology could be integrated with live performance.

TechBox residents introduced participants to different types of tech, these included: photogrammetry (3D scanning), motion capture, generative AI art, live interactive vision-mixing (using Resolume), augmented reality mobile apps and social media lenses.  Participants returned with ideas using these technologies to build prototype swith the assistance of TechBox.  Concepts included an AI generated fun-house mirror and an interactive murder mystery.
