Three unsightly souls have emerged from the difficult and disease ridden daily grind of life in 1500s to make a stand for peasants everywhere. They may be smelly, uneducated and have a shockingly low average life span but they can be artists too and they are here to share their stories with you. Their repertoire includes The Real Macbeth (the version Shakespeare doesn’t want you to see), The Story of the Swede (a delightful ditty of farming, harvesting and more farming) and Saddle Up The Horses, a game the whole family can play (when they are not working, which is never).
Them Peasants can be 3 x 40 minute performances which can be performed on its own or adapted to sit well between other acts/ events/ talks. This act can be tailored to suit any festival or event. In one peasants outing at Glasgow International Film Festival, we welcomed the audience to showings of film versions of Macbeth, where the peasants insisted on the unfairness of Shakespeare writing mainly about posh folk and presented their self penned plays about root vegetables as an alternative.
