Surge @ Manipulate

Join us for Surge’s Pitch Event at Manipulate with Suzie Cunningham and Gavin Glover. Our fabulous bursary acts will be performing on Sat 1st Feb 2.30PM, Summerhall / Old Lab, £6 / £4.

Suzi Cunningham – EIDOS

EIDOS (the Greek for Idol- to mould or form)  explores idolisationand conditioning: the shapes and faces we develop to present to the world.

‘EIDOS’, is a physical, colourful visual ride of transformation and conformity, and how the body veers between constraint and freedom.

Alongside the hedonism of heroism, the work considers the external influences and ambitions whilst growing up; the stalwarts of our lives, resistance to inheriting genetic traits and what happens when our idols die. During development, I asked the question ‘How do we embody and celebrate loss in order to become heroes ourselves?’

Gavin Glover and Adam Tompa – Some Enormous Vehicle

“I’m not an idiot so I must be the fool”

A darkness fell across the town that night and Janos expected the world under his perfect little Universe to be the same the next day but no..

The huge corpse of a stuffed whale had been set up in the town square and a malevolent crowd had gathered to buy tickets. Deep within the bowels of this dubious attraction a plot was being hatched to take over the town, it’s people and everything dear. An ominous change was in the air and poor Janos did everything in his power to stop the inevitable. He is still trying.
