Last year’s programme
Surge presents a bounty of outlandish and spectacular street theatre, unleashed on the public throughout the Merchant City Festival weekend.
This year’s annual SURGE festival brought together new work from all four nations and cutting-edge international performances to the streets of Glasgow, bringing them to life in ways never seen before.
SURGE is Scotland’s annual festival of street arts, physical theatre and circus. Delivered in partnership with Merchant City Festival, SURGE fills the streets and spaces of Glasgow with exciting new Scottish work and cutting edge international performance, every July. Alongside a packed programme of shows and street encounters, we also run SURGE masterclasses and workshops, for everyone from members of the public to professional performers. Previous SURGE programmes have included work from Cantabile 2, pvi collective, Angela De Castro, and Eric Davis (Red Bastard). As part of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games Cultural Programme, SURGE produced Perch, a cross-continental Carnival with spectacular performances on the rooftops of Glasgow and Campinas (Brazil).
